fullbar

So, one of our clients is fullbar.

Everytime I heard the client name around the office I ASSUMED it was a company the sold those bars you lock your steering wheel with...
& I really have no idea why?

Nor, did I ever think to ask "so, what does fullbar do?"I just assumed oooooohh yeah, fullbar- i should get one of those.

Anyway come to find out, they sell nutrition bars that are supposed to make you full.

This revelation led me to say...

"If I worked at full bar,
I would pile a stack of them on my desk,
and everytime somebody asked me to go eat,
I would say- Sorry man, I'm soooooooo full.
(alluding to the fact that i just had a fullbar and it's working!)

And that led me to think....

What if, I took a fullbar challenge?

Ate one everyday for lunch. Lost some inches around the waist, and become their SpokesGirl!
Hey, I dream big! Sorry if you don't.

Would that be a conflict of interest?

Who should I pitch this idea too?

Or should I just do it- see if i get results...

THEN, pitch the idea?

It's a thought in progress people...

I'll keep you updated.

Tuesday

Hello, Hello, and good morning to all!

I woke up today and declared to kia, and I'm assuming Helen because she's always around...  "Today. I will blog!"

Little did i know I was in store for an exciting, disappointing, and uncoordinated morning commute... but we all know- it's good blog material-and for that I am grateful:)

This weekend, I made brownies, nothing exceptional, just the old box mix.

Anyway... here comes some lady on the Today Show saying "even if you just eat one brownie every night you can gain weight, one brownie is very fattening"

Well holy crap lady, I've got a whole pan!

So today I pack up for work, make my lunch, get my backpack on (work computer)and cup of coffee,

stop.

stare at the brownie pan...

internal struggle:
Brownie every night this week would be nice...
But!
I could take them into work, i'd be a superstar (people like brownies), and i'd be avoiding the weight gain...

ok ok ok, fine, whatever, I'll do it!

Wrestle the brownie pan, paper plate, tin foil to top- on my way!

Anyway..... i make it onto the light rail, literally bumping into people right and left- poor lady next to me- it's always the backpack- im trying to take it off while holding a plate of brownies and a cup of coffeee!!! Finally i just ask her- "can you hold these for a sec? Thanks!"

Amidst all the chaos, i finally get settled, look up- It's Magic man!!!

Send the following Email my coworker... because she gets on at the broadway stop.

"Hey, The magic man is on the light rail again!!! I'm trying to get a pic of him, if not, he gets off at broadway- so be on the lookout.

Ok change of plans, as I was writing this he got off (at broadway):( So I've attached what I'd call my best effort of a photo shoot.. Please note.. I took these pics across the aisle, on my phone, & as such- the quality is disappointing:(

Thanks, Lora

Sent from my iPhone"

Meanwhile, I've stood up, (set brownies on seat, coffee in hand)
& Blatantly Taken this pic...

Magic man, and his magic box, by the big white pole... Better luck next time:(

Anyway...
chaos subsides, i sit down to enjoy my coffee- look around... sitting in the next set of seats facing me is a girl with my same jacket on.

Now we are akwardly staring at eachother... everyone has been in that moment... should I say something?
"Hey, nice coat."
has anyone ever said something? You know you're both thinking it.

I mean, it's a northface, i'm aware other people might possibly own the same coat- I've just never been faced with it. THEN- I notice she is also wearing the same ring that i have.

I mean, the ring is from forever 21, i'm also aware other people might possibly own it.

But the combo of the two? Am i really not as original as i think i am?
How disappointing.

The Magic Man

I saw a magic man today!

He got on the light rail wearing a long black coat, rose colored john lennon glasses,
long flowing hair, and a top hat with feathers.

Behind him, he was rolling a big black magic box... I'm assuming it housed all of his magic things, you know:
Bunnies,
Red Handkerchiefs,
Playing Cards,
Dull Saws,
Bird cages,
Maybe even a scantily dressed assistant.

He exuded mystery!

Right about the time i was imagining magic dust swirling around his magic box, & wishing for a little kid to get on.

Sally Suspicious next to me ruined it all!

"What's in your box?"

NOOOOOOO.... don't tell me!

"I deal diamonds, this is my diamond case"

They proceeded to have a long conversation about real diamonds vs. artificially grown diamonds, blah blah, who cares! You should be a magician... obviously, and you should fill that black box with things of mystery- not diamonds.

What a let down...

I was sitting there thinking, I wish i was back abroad, and i didn't speak this language!
They could still have their converstion in czech, i wouldn't understand,

then i could go on with my day thinking i saw something SPECTACULAR!

Thoughts

YAY for a fast work week-
this is the first week, since I've started in November, that's just FLOWN by!

And, this is the first time I don't really have anything to blog about...

So I thought i would just start typing and see what happens..

maybe a list of random thoughts?

ok.

1.
I want to have a blog convention. Everyone who writes a blog i follow, and who follows mine.
I would name it Tricks and Tips, for B.I.P.S
(that's Bloggers Into Posting & Sharing)
Totally just made that up right here on the spot, but i like it- and you do too, i just know it!

2.
K-state/CU Game tomorrow!!!!
Got tickets with the alumni group- can't wait!
The whole Denver crew is heading to Boulder:)
Go State!

3.
I've seen 2 pregnant women smoking in 2 days.
I know it's karma, because I saw the first one yesterday, just chilling outside the office, looked like she was about to pop- smoking. I thought "I should say something!" and then i thought "she's standing with her bf or baby daddy, or just some guy, and he could come after me if i upset her... ok, i won't say anything, but next time a see a pregnant lady smoking... "

Get off the light rail this morning, seriously within a few seconds, run right into another pregnant lady smoking... come on!

Dear God,
I can't take on this cause all by myself, I know i said I would, but it's kind of scary.
We both know, by default, a pregnant lady is probably going to be bigger than me every time. I just don't know if i can do it. Please Advise.
Sincerely, Lora
P.S. thanks again for Kia!

4.
a BLOGGER convention would be sweet.
I'd try to feature a guest speaker... somebody who really knows the ends and outs of HTML code.
Maybe our office IT guy... curtis.

5.
If you don't watch Modern Family, I can't be your Friend.
I just can't.

6.
I met some new DeverLite's this week (a term I coined from the term "Socialite")
I facebook friended one of them the next day... she accepted. But I feel weird about this, who does that? I did.
Seriously... how long should you wait? Or should facebook kinship WAIT  until after a few meetings have taken place?

Confused in Denver,
signing out.

Small Wins.

Sometimes it's the small successes that can really brighten you're day!

I've had a few this week...

sunday.
I live in the Washington Park neighborhood, one of the many Denver "neighborhoods" (Emily & Adam live here too!).

It's got its name because it was built around this big beautiful park, Washington Park.

There's a path that runs along the outer perimeter of the park and on a nice day, the whole neighborhood comes out to walk/ run around.

side note: the "mile high" city takes awhile to get used to- cardio speaking- I really noticed the change in altitude, and running to/from/around anything for longer than a couple minutes is a big accomplishment in this town.

That being said, it's extemely frusterating when you get passed, and sometimes even  lapped! by these freaking professional runners who prob only come to our little park so they can make themseleves feel better when they lap all of us unsuspecting pedestrians.

SO. Ever since I've moved out here, I'ts been my goal to pass another runner.

& Sunday- I did it!!!!

Full disclosure here,
it was a "runner mom" with a 3 wheel stroller...

but she looked legit-

and when i saw her in front of me, i picked up the pace-

one "excuse me" later-
she (and her baby) were eating my dust!

 Win #1!!!

monday.
I'm on a new client this week in Downtown Denver- and along with the amazing elevators- i get the window cube!

The "first year" gets the window cube!
 Win #2!!!

(please note the mountain view- top right)

I'm here with a team of 4Auditors, all day we're working individually, barely talking, so randomly I will exclaim~
"man, what a breathtaking view!"
or
"Ah, those mountains are looking good"
or
"look, tom cruise!"
ok... not really, but it would be funny if i did.

i'm fully expecting to show up one morning and one of them will have taken my desk- because i rave so much about all the perks of sitting by a window- ha,
WELL, it's tuesday and the desk was all mine this morning!

 Win #3!!!

Sucks for them,
because today just happens to be the western livestock parade!!!
& during lunch- they are parading livestock down 17th street, and yours truely- has a picture perfect window view:) Aweome Denver! Livestock pararade on a random Tues in January?

tuesday.
I get off the lightrail as usual.
It's mildly cold out, so i start speed walking to the office-
out of nowhere- through the corner of my eye, i see this man speed walking to try and pass me...

it's on, man! I wore flats today, and i'll beat you to that crosswalk!  I speed up.

So does he!

now it's obvious this dude wants to race.

we both hit the cross walk at the same time,
red light.
so now we're waiting...standing right next to eachother...
it's like a drag race on foot.

I check him out- shades, black leather jacket, dude doesn't want to lose.

Green light!
He takes off- i'm still judging him... get a late start.

Now my building is coming up on the left- and i'm about 4 steps behind.....

Screw it!

I take a quick starter hop, and run past him into my building!!!

Win #4!!!

So exhilerating!
I just beat "speed racer ron" (affectionately named by me)
Hang a right to the elevator lobby.
press the button.
waiting for my sweet elevator....

You'll never guess who comes around the corner, stands next to me, waitin' for the same set of elevators....

Candy Fay

Emily (of a day in the life...) and I were invited to  bunko this past Friday-
we were a little apprehensive on the car ride there-
The party was originally supposed to be in December- & the original Evite said to bring a gift for a white elephant exchange-  but it got moved to January... so do we still bring a gift?
PLuS, we only know 2 of the girls that are supposed to be there... scary.

After we do a drive byor 2,
or realistically it was 3.

We take a vote & decided to go in- I mean, we're here,
I've made this awesome cheese & sausage platter in the backseat,
we've got gifts, a bottle of wine, let's do it.

Walk in, gravitate directly towards the 2 girls we know

ChiT ChaT,a few of the girls look familiar,
a few others sound pretty fun from across the island- note to self; sit next to them, become their friend...
open our bottle of wine- down 2 glasses each (20 minutes= empty bottle)
 time for the gift exchange...

REWIND, earlier in the day, light bulb moment!  My gift will be a DU shirt!
I live 5 blocks from Denver University, they've got a student union where I'd previously gotten my own awesome DU t-shirt
(partially seen below)

So I get the t-shirt, i'm thinking- this thing,
 It's gonna be a hit!
We live in Denver... you know, cute shirt!

back to the exchange: we're all sitting in a circle, my gift gets picked!
everyone's watching the girl open it,
I'm thinking- "oh no, buyers remorse, what is they don't dig this shirt as much as i do? "

Girl pulls it out, holds it up... confusion all over her face. Didn't exactly fit the theme of scarfs, jewelry, candles...

I turn bright red (remember, just chugged 2 glasses of wine!)

 Now i've got two choices..
1. Make a run for the door
2. admit it's my gift

"um, yeah I brought that one, I don't know, I thought it as funny"

"ooooh" courtesy chuckles all around.
whisper to Emily, "I misjudged my crowd"

Long story short. This was a mixed crowd, & there were a few CU girls, so to the CU girls it was like bringing a ku shirt to a kstate party- my bad.
My poor gift was the last one to be picked in the 2nd round or stealing gifts- totally misjudged my crowd.

Now, on to BUNKO!

We had 14 girls, so we were playing with 2 "ghost" players... if i would've known- i would've brought Helen

i've got to redeem myself after the shirt scandal.  So, I name the ghost player at my table- Candy Fay- short for Candace- and she looked good!  Success!!

I mean, it was funny,
they eventually named the other ghost player "Candy Fay" too:)

So, by the end of the night Emily and I had made some new friends... 2 of which were ghost players.

Now I'm faced with a predicament,
how long should I wait to facebook friend my new aquaintances?

Nobody has friended me yet- is that a bad sign?

Anyway, the social scene in Denver is hoppin!

Emily & I have been cordially invited to another get together Wednesday night- totally different group of girls, maybe these girls would appreciate a DU shirt?

Study Day

I have the day off work today to study for the audit section of the CPA test. Problem is- of course, I don't want to study.

It's sooooo hard to focus when I have work stuff piled up, an impressive pile of dirty laundry, or rather, I don't know if it's dirty or clean so i made one big pile. AND.... a dog who has been in the house all week due to in-climate snowy weather, and is dying to go on a walk!

Makes me think of a quote- shared with me by Ckells- a quote she heard at the Jim Gaffigan show...

Sometimes, when you have a lot to do-
don't you  just want to take a nap?

Yes,  JIM , I do. But i can't, because that would be stupid and un-productive.

I'm thinking about quitting my job and becoming a photographer

I don't know anything about photography, but there is this place called the Denver Darkroom where I'm going to take some classes-
I've been told i should take the classes before i leave my profession... whatever.

Back to Studying!

hahaha! Who are we kidding here?

Time to start studying!

Somebody needs to disconnect my internet (emily- if you're reading this, you're probably the closest) - then i might get things accomplished.

Or just take a nap until it comes back on:)

My 2010 Resolutions

It's January 6th, and i need to make some 2010 resolutions!
SO...i'll Post them, you can see them, & I'll keep you updated ON my progress:)

1. Get A picture with the elusive neighbor dean.

2. Work out 4 days a week (I've been slacking), look for neighbor dean at the gym- he works out there too... get in good with him, then the picture possibilities are endless!

3. Blog twice a week- we're getting into busy season here people-you'll be lucky if you get 2!

4. Wash more dishes, we don't have a dishwasher. Some days i think it's Luke. Then he reminds me it's not. Crap.

5.Use bigger words, especially while blogging. (elusive, check)

6. Get another dog- name her Chloe.

7. Finish the CPA tests... ah, whatever. So close, just need to finish strong and be done with it!

Looks good, productive, and manageable.

Alright, now down to business. I've been thinking- at what age do we stop being
young,
 trendy,
 attractive,
and become mom-ish?

 DON'T WORRY. I think it's at least like 30 or 35.

I saw this lady the other day, cute haircut, cute pink top, THEN I noticed her mom jeans, and pink crocs?
And I said to myself... "she's on the edge, she is about to go overboard, she's let herself go- from the waist down" She was holding on to the last bit of herself with the cute pink blouse- but mom-ness was upon her.

i know this because she was accompanied by what looked like a 10 year old-
i'm not good with kid ages, never had one, never really been around one for too long- So I'm guessing 10. The point is, she was a mom.

Anyway, just a thought.

When you find yourself thinking mom jeans- don't do it.

Anyway... technically I consider myself a mom- I've got a 3 year old, and one on the way (please see new years resolution #6)

Here is a picture I took of my angel girl today... isn't she adorable

Ok, I'm a proud momma, one more!

The Car Wash

So...
I drove home for christmas, it snowed like crazy- then drove back, salt all over the road and by default my car.

Monday I decide it's time for a car wash!

I was supposed to be at a client all day, but the client wasn't ready for me so I had some time to spare- & 2 errands- grocery store, car wash.

Grocery store: Check

Enter: Car Wash.

I should've drove away after I pulled up and realized I couldn't pay there, so I have to reverse, park, go inside- now back to the wash.

As I'm pulling in I wonder... "should I have folded my mirrors in?"
I have a 4Runner (like everyone else in Denver, mildly annoying) so it's a big car and a tight fit.

"Oh well, nothing's gonna happen... "

The wash starts up, I get on my iphone- facebook ap, great way to kill time.

THEN I here A loud noise- look up, the spinning brush has ripped my mirror the opposite way of where it should be, bended it back.

I freak out,
drop the phone,
hit my window button-
of course the window it automatic so it slides ALL THE WAY DOWN,
no time.
I reach out- getting wet- pull my mirror in.

Well, right about this time the previously mentioned spinning brush comes up from behind me and before I CAN pull back into the car- it slaps me in the face!

Not only do i have car wash face, my entire interior/ work clothes & phone are soaked.

I learned two valuable lessons on Monday.

#1. Fold mirrors in before entering the car wash.

#2. The spinning brush is not cotton rags as previously suspected, it's rubber.
