The Knot

Great News!
A few weeks ago I got an email from the editor of the Knot Magazine -
our photographer had submitted our wedding pictures and we'd been selected along with 4 other couples to be a feature wedding in the Colorado edition!

Best. Day. Ever.

After filling out a 13 page form with all the details and a few emails and phone calls with the "fact checker" lady, Jacki.  Yesterday I finally heard it's official!
We will be in the spring/summer 2012 edition of the Magazine
It will be several pages all about our special day:)
In stores November 21st.

I couldn't be happier...
It's serious validation from the wedding world!!!

Cheers!

This post is dedicated to
Courtney & Brian!

After a magical 2 1/2 year courtship (no pun intended)
Brian popped the question! & of course she said yes!

*
*This is not actual moment....

Congratulations!
What a perfect MATCH...

Cheers to the future Seacats!

Weatherization Day?

I went to lunch with a coworker today and when I got back I had an email from Casey. Here is what it said...

From: Casey R. Winchell [mailto:Casey.Winchell@aghlc.com]
Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 2010 1:03 PM

Sugar, I was looking at Board of County Commissioner meetings minutes for '09 and realized that our wedding falls on Kansas Weatherization day. Just an FYI. An easy way to remember our anniversary in the future ;)

He's going to kill me when he sees i posted this.
I generally let the randomness that is Casey go without notice, but this made me laugh:)

Wedding Breakdown #1 (at work)

Ok, I'm going to take a page from Brittney's Blog here and keep a running tally of my pre-wedding breakdowns, because today.... I had my first.

It was minor, but all of a sudden I felt panicked,
lost,
afraid that the plans i had weren't going to happen!

I had a few tears, nothing too dramatic; I was at work people so i had to keep it under control.
If i'd been at home, i imagine this would have gone down a little different...

Anyway, Over the weekend I ordered our engagement pictures!
Perfect timing considering the fact that our ENGAGEMENT PARTY is on Friday:)

I was worried about the timing, what if they didn't make it to my house in Denver before i fly to KC? So i had them shipped home to my parents. I've been collecting some frames, and i'm envisioning a cute little table full of our engagement  pictures.

What else do you do with engagement pictures?

I've been thinking about this a lot...
you get the pics, its a good practice for the BIG DAY
(you know, getting comfortable in front of the camera- smiling with your eyes and such... thank you americas next top model, i feel after watching several episodes & taking detailed mental notes on tyra's advice, it really prepared me for the shoot, just a note for all you future brides)
But, after a few months you'll get your wedding pictures-
& aren't those the pics you want hanging in your house?
What happens to the engagement pictures?
I don't know? This really confuses me!

Anyway, back to the breakdown....
Monday i get an email confirming the pictures have been printed and shipped to my parents address. YAY! I bought the 2 day shipping package so i know they'll be there by friday- perfect.

TODAY(tues) i get an email saying the pics have been printed and sent to my denver address, arrival date- FRIDAY!

What? I thought they were shipped yesterday? I fly our friday morning- this is not enough time!

Where is their number!?! I'm calling!

But If they're already printed and shipped it's too late, they would need to print more pictures and have them overnighted! I'll end up with two sets of pictures?
Oh well, this is their mistake it has to be fixed!
I get on the phone- freaking out- these people are taking advantage of me and i'm not going to stand for it.

Get on the phone, state my case, & the lady says-
"there must be some mistake, they WERE shipped yesterday to the Kansas Address"
"Oh"- i say.

"i'm confused, i just got an email from UPS saying that my shipment was sent today and would arrive at my denver address Friday?"

As i am saying this it hits me!
That shipping confirmation was for our save the date magnets not the engagement pictures!

I totally forgot we ordered save the dates last week, they were being printed,
and now, of course-
they're being shipped!!!

I feel embarrassed and relieved all at the same time.

should i admit my mistake to picture printing lady? I pretty much set the tone from the start that i was NOT HAPPY.
should i admit my mistake? Explain this silly little coincidence?

Nope

"oh well, i guess we will just have to wait and see
i tell her,
"maybe UPS has it wrong?"

Oops...

Nutties, are you there? It's me, lora.

Hi All You Nutties out there…

I’ve decided if you’re (A NuTsHeLL) reader,

you’re a nuttie- or a shelLy?
Or just a super cool person.

hey- it is what it is.

Loooooong time no talk! I’ve missed you- and I’m sure you missed me!
I’ve just been super busy with work.

Being a "first year", during "busy season",
=

Shitty January-May.
 long hours,
working weekends,
and if you need personal time,
good f*ing luck.

Let me tell you a tale…
(it’s been awhile since you’ve received one of these)

and really, It’s only funny because it’s true,

It was a average, wait, below average Wednesday night.
It’d already been a long week, and dinner time was fast approaching. Lora (the first year) and Deana (the intern) had been taking turns going out and getting dinner for the audit team.

AKA lora kept pushing it off on Deanna, and was hoping/ praying to do the same this fatefull night.

Ok, this tale could take awhile to tell..

Here is the jest of my “Worst Night Ever!"

1. GOT STUCK getting dinner

2. Engagement team chooses the most expensive place to order dinner for 6 ppl- and yours truly has to front the money- ill get reimbursed, eventually, but it adds up fast.

3. Get lost

4. Really lost, garmin takes me to some mattress store- not the restautant, cell phone is dead, no idea where I am… wtf Rhonda?
(my garmins name is Rhonda, i bestowed the name on that little black box after a trip to la, and I found myself singing the jingle “help me rhonda”- sold-! i will call you rhonda, and you shall help me.

5. Stop and ask for direstions at gas station, cursing Rhonda, and garmin for that matter- put this shit on your commercials, GARMIN.
Gas station Attendant does not speak English.

6. Stop at starbucks, in tears, nice lady draws me a map!

7. Get to the restaurant, $110, sweet co-workers- sweet

8. Get back to the client, 1 hour later, realize im locked out of the office building
:(

9. Track down some dude in the parking garage. Hands full of take out, approach his window
“SIR, SIR!”
“excuse me, sir, can you get out of your car, walk me back up to the building and let me in!?, thanks

10. In the building, check.
Now who can let me up this elevator?? OOH CLEANING PeoPLe!
Guess what, they don’t speak English either… lady #1, runs off to get lady #2, as I stand with gentleman #1… akward… akward…
oh, here come ladies 1 &2 together,

“I’ve locked myself out, I need to get to floor 8!” Lady 2 translated to gentleman 1… who then escorts me up to my floor.

11. Get back into the audit room, ready and willing to tell my horror story- nobody cares, or asks why it took so long- pass out their entrees and its back to work.I love my life:)

Anyway.....

Casey was in town last weekend, he asked for my ring- I give it to him, not paying attention, im working from home- surprise.

About 15 minutes later he’s asking if I have any black velvet?
maybe a  shirt/pants/anything…
NO, why would I have that?
10 minutes later I look up and he’s showing me the glamor shots he’s just taken of my ring...

“for your blog” he says.

Oh of course ! (weirdo)

And ever since, he tells me I should update my blog… with his pics.

drumroll please....

October 30, 2010

Ahhhhh, Engaged:)
I've been dying to blog about this, but it's been such a busy weekend,
you know,
getting engaged and all!

Here's the Story....

Casey & I have been dating for a little over a year... It was "official" last new years,
but we'd been seeing each other since late fall.

I already knew I was moving to Denver when we got together,
&
He already had a job waiting for him in Wichita
(He's an accountant too,  i know-
we don't look fun on paper...)

So when we finally had to go our separate ways... it was rough.

I've always been the girl who feels sorry for the girl in the long distance relationship.

Actually, I've always been the friend, who is like
"just break up, I would never do that!"

Well karma is a funny thing!

because suddenly
I found myself in a long distance relationship.

Within the first couple months i just knew, i was ready, we have something very special, and being apart made it more clear.

So, for the past month or so we've been talking about engagement rings, what i would want, blah blah blah...  I definitely knew it was coming, eventually.

Fast Forward to Wednesday.

I get an email at work that says "spoiled surprise"

I read it,
Casey says: "I didn't want to have to involve you, but I've been working with a jeweler in kansas city, he's designed the ring you want and they've created a wax mold. But, because of the way it's being made, you need to try on the wax before we can take the next step. It's been overnighted to you- try it on for size, then send it back."

I'm freaking out!

Pretty much stalk the mailman for the next two days,

even break down and make Emily Griffin do a drive by of my front porch Thursday afternoon, no such luck:(

Finally, THURSDAY NIGHT, i get a notice, i've got a package at the post office.

Pick up my little gem friday morning, fits perfect, exactly what i'd envisioned!!!

Friday Night,
i PICK Casey up at the airport

We're meeting the griffins for dinner, so when we get back to my house, i'm like
"come on we gotta get moving"

I check the mail & there's a 1-800-flowers box,
from casey of course,
So he says "i'll set these up while you get ready"

Good deal!
He pulls out the vase, and the roses, so pretty!

Then he says "do you have the wax? I still haven't seen it"

and i say,
"Yeah it's in my purse, in the kitchen"

I go in to get it out of my purse, he follows,
I hand it to him,
he has the flowers in his left hand, blue wax ring in his right,

and he gets down on one knee- RIGHT THERE!

Truly, Didn't see it coming!!!

I start backing away,
"Really?" "Right Now?"

He says
"This is me"

Now i'm thinking, he's got a point...

any of you who know casey, know he's probably the most random person you've ever met

Then he says, (still on bended knee),
"Lora, It's now of never, you're not getting this again"

again, any of you who know Casey know he knows how to put me in my place.

So i walk back over to him, clearly back on board with the proposal,
He said some really nice things!
We call our parents, i put on my blue wax ring, and we hit the town with Emily & Adam.

The Four of Us:)

Wearing the Wax! Celebration martini....

We've officially set a date-
10.30.10
Boettcher Mansion
Golden, CO

Engagement Party in KC
Friday April 9th!

I'm supposed to get the ring friday, & i'll post pictures.
